After playing at Soldier Field for 50 years, the Chicago Bears recently announced moving their new stadium to Arlington Heights, Ill. The Bears say the capital investment for their project will be more than $5 billion, with the team intending to invest more than $2 billion into the new stadium.
Some students said they believe that this has both a positive and negative impact on the Bears.
“I do think that moving the Bears is sad just because I have always enjoyed being able to go downtown to Soldier Field and I just think that the environment is better,” says Liam Allen, junior.
Ever since the Bears bought Arlington Park in 2023, it’s been the talk of the town. As 95% of clientele agree and can’t wait for this change to be made. Adding onto the billions of dollars in capital investment into the stadium and surrounding development, the report anticipates the creation of more than 56,000 construction jobs statewide.
Not only will this create more job opportunities but it will help small businesses and restaurants in the area.
“I went to a really good Mexican restaurant called Mango Grill. It serves Mexican and Latin food. I got steak tacos with rice and beans. I would definitely recommend trying it out,” said Charlie Tornabene, sophomore.
This new and improved stadium is well deserved. Just recently, the Bears rallied for a 25-24 win over the Raiders. Jack Blackwell blocked a 54-yard field goal attempt by Daniel Carlson in the final minute to preserve a fourth quarter rally by Caleb Williams, leading to the win.
“Every week I look forward to watching Sunday night football. When I watched the game I was completely shocked, I was so happy that they won. I have always been a Chicago Bears fan and will always cheer for them,” said Mr. Jack DiMatteo, social studies teacher.
Although when the Bears move to Arlington Heights is not set yet, the move brings both sadness and excitement, as fans say good bye to Soldier Field but look ahead to a more modern new home. This new stadium marks the start of a fresh chapter for the Chicago Bears.
