The Hinsdale Central Girls Swim and Dive Team has been successful so far this season. They have both a united team with strong practice strategies. With a JV1, JV2, and Varsity team, girls swim have participated in many invitational meets, training, and team bonding activities.
“We have big and little’s which is one upper classmen has one under classmen; we do gift giving and it’s the best way to know new underclassmen and overall untie the team,” said Izzy Tornabene, senior.
With conference and sectionals coming up at the end of October and start of November, the girls have been participating in daily practices, Thursday and Saturday meets, and dry-land after practice. Many swimmers have shown their dedication to their sport through attending early morning, before-school practices starting at 5:30 a.m.
“As a state swimmer, I am training for sectional’s right now…it takes a lot of practice and dedication but all the hard work pays off since I am able to have the opportunity to swim on the state team,” said Karina Miller, junior.
Not only has swimming been successful in training, but the divers have also been killing it, according to their teammates. They have learned many new skills and have gotten really close as a team this season. Many of the girls have proven themselves, working hard learning new skills every day and getting feedback from their Coach Steve. One of the strategies that the dive team uses to practice and learn their skills is being able to record themselves.
“I like being able to watch myself dive when we bring out the TV. Even when I learn a new skill I love being able to see myself be successful. I also like it because it’s funny to watch yourself after making a mistake like back-flopping,” said Lane Inabnit, senior.
The Swim and Dive Team has shown their skills through many swim meets, invitational meets and through practices. All levels of swim and dive have proved their skills and hard working abilities, according to the swimmers. Going into Sectionals, an invitational hosted at Central during the weekend of Oct. 31, varsity earned second at the 2025 Girls WSC Silver Championship on Friday, Oct. 24.
