2026 opens a new chapter of many peoples’ lives. To start 2026, students at Hinsdale Central have set New Year’s Resolutions to make it their best year yet. Students have a variety of goals they aim to achieve and routines they intend to follow. Over winter break students have had time to relax, reset, and reflect on what they want to carry with them into this new year.
Many students’ resolutions are to strive academically as they begin their second semester. Some said in a poll they hope to improve their study habits, time management, and overall effort in school.
“Last year I did many of my assignments at the last minute. This year I hope to space out my studies to avoid stressful nights and comprehend information better,” said Sherine Nehme, senior.
Many students have the overall goal to improve their grades and study techniques in the new year. Aside from education, students also use this fresh start as an opportunity to develop better habits, establish a productive daily routine, and strengthen their relationships with others.
Most students have written down their personal goals and crafted a daily schedule to follow in order to reach them. A lot of these routines include productive habits such as working out, spending quality time with family, reading, journaling, or finding a new hobby.
“I really want to get into painting, it seems so soothing and it is a better way to spend my time off-screen. I also want to spend more time with my family because they are very important to me,” said Hanna Rifai, sophomore.
A popular resolution for students has been to reduce their screen time to make time for things that are more beneficial to their performance. With their free time, many students strive to become more involved in their school community. At the school there are various ways to get involved whether it be through sports, clubs, or even engaging with students in school. School activities offer new opportunities to spark interests and make new connections.
Personal goals are a big part of people’s New Years Resolutions. This year, many students strive to develop a more positive mindset. This mindset includes being kinder to others, communicating thoughts and feelings, being optimistic, and showing support.
“Last semester I often second-guessed myself. This semester I want to believe in myself and have an encouraging mindset to get me through the rest of the year,” said Judy Atassi, senior.
New Years Resolutions give students at a chance to refocus and reset. Even if not every goal is achieved, their effort to improve is what keeps them going through the rest of the school year. As 2026 begins, students are motivated to carry these resolutions and embrace change as they work toward a successful and meaningful year.
