The Hinsdale Central Boys Swim Team continued their dominance last weekend by winning the state championship for the fourth year in a row. The Red Devils once again proved that they are one of the top swim programs in the state, building on a legacy of success through hard work, teamwork, and dedication. After months of early morning and after school practices, and lots of swim meets, the team came together at the state meet and delivered the performances needed to secure another state title.
Throughout the meet, Hinsdale Central swimmers had impressive performances in multiple events. Many athletes swam personal best times and even broke their own records.
“One of the events that I swam at state this year was the 100 backstroke. Last year I was able to break the 100 backstroke record and then again this year I was able to go a best time and break my own record, it was an amazing moment,” said Luke Vatev, a junior.
Not only did many swimmers on the state team give it their all in individual events but also in the relays.
“I swam the 400 free relay and I was really impressed with everyone’s time. We were able to secure the first place spot, swimming a 2:58.41, which was a four second drop from what we did in the prelims. I couldn’t be happier with the guys that I swam with and how well we did,” said Brandon Suliga, a senior.
For many seniors, the win was a meaningful way to end their high school swimming careers. After years of training and competing together, finishing with another state title made the moment even more special.
“Being on the team for the past four years and being able to experience winning state all four years of my high school swim career is amazing. I’ve grown so close to all of my teammates and couldn’t be more grateful for the friendships that I’ve made. Even though I’m done swimming for high school, I will continue to swim at Emory University,” said Johnathan Feiro, a senior.
The state meet marks another unforgettable moment for the Hinsdale Central Boys Swim Team and the entire school community. Winning four state titles in a row is a remarkable accomplishment and shows the strength of the program. As the team celebrates their victory, they have also continued a legacy that future Red Devil swimmers will aim to carry forward.
