As the spring sports season gets started, the Hinsdale Central girls lacrosse team is back on the field, and preparing for another competitive year. With practices officially starting and games approaching, players and coaches are already focused on team bonding, hard work and setting the tone for the season ahead.
For many athletes, the start of the season brings a mix of excitement and adjustments. After months away from the game or in club season, the team is using the first few weeks of practice to get back into rhythm, work on conditioning and prepare for the balance of school and the new schedule.
“I do think that the team has really good chemistry and everyone has become super close starting this season. It’s also really fun that we have six sets of sisters on the team and I do think it contributes to our team being really close,” said Willa Braden, senior.
That early team bonding is so important in lacrosse, where communication and timing can make a major difference. Players have spent the first week of practices reviewing drills and working on both offensive and defensive sets as they prepare for more of their upcoming games this spring.
“The practices so far have been really good, we are all learning how to play as a team and learning each other’s different strengths on the field,” said Gabriella De Vita, senior.
In addition to returning upperclassmen, the Red Devils are also looking to younger players to help make an impact this season. The early part of the spring gives newer athletes a chance to adjust to the pace of varsity play while learning from experienced teammates.
“I love having my sister on the team. I am so happy that for my last year I got the opportunity to play with her. Especially with six pairs of sisters on the team our team is probably the closest it’s ever been. Having our sisters on our team helps the connections between each other. It makes us fight towards something together,” said Kiran Singla, senior.
As the team continues to prepare, players say their goals go beyond simply just winning games. Leadership, consistency, and maintaining a strong culture are all key priorities as the season begins.
With a new season officially here, Hinsdale Central students can expect a motivated girls lacrosse team that is ready to compete. While there is still plenty of the season left, the Red Devils are entering spring with strong energy, clear goals, and the determination to make the most of the season ahead.
