On Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, Feb. 19, 20, and 21, the wrestling state tournament for individuals was held on the University of Illinois campus in Urbana-Champagne. Central sent junior Matt Allen and senior Juwan Edmond. Allen placed second in the 285 pound division, and Edmond placed third in the 152 pound division.

As a team, Central did not win their sectional, so the season is over for dual team competition, meaning the team will not compete in the state tournament this Saturday, Feb. 28 in Bloomington, Illinois.

“I’m really proud of our guys,” said James Manikas, senior and wrestler.  “Even though we didn’t qualify for state, we fought hard all the way through it. Matt and Juwan did an awesome job in [the individual] state [tournament].”
