From left to right, Varsity girls’ water polo team members Kelly Williams, senior, Heather DeBoer, senior, Gracie Dunn, senior, and Nina Relias, senior, congratulate each other during a match.

Varsity girls water polo is having a great season despite having a team that is comprised mainly of juniors and sophomores.  Their record this season is 11-4-1, one of the best records they’ve ever had.

The team also has a surprising amount of underclassmen including sophomores, Mary Kress, Zoe Relias, and Karly Berger.

“[Sophomores] have been really key on varsity this season,” said Kelly Williams, senior and varsity girls’ water polo team member.

Gracie Dunn, senior, believes that a major component of the team’s success so far has been the way the team has worked cohesively this year.

Williams agrees. “There aren’t a lot of key players, but since losing the seniors from last year, we have been able to readjust well. Everyone knows their position and how to play together,” Williams said.

According to both Williams and Dunn, the overall chemistry among the team and different grade levels have worked out great for this years’ team.

The next game will be away on Wednesday, Apr. 14 against Waubonsie Valley at 6 p.m.
