The Hinsdale Central girls soccer team started their tryouts on March 3, and they will come to an end on March 8 when the girls will find out which team they made. There are three teams at Central: junior varsity two, junior varsity one and varsity.
The soccer team is coming off of a successful season last year where they lost in the third round of super sectionals to Lyons Township High School. The team is preparing for another productive season with a busy game schedule in March through May.
The first game is scheduled for March 17, where they will compete against the Whitney Young Dolphins.
The tryout schedule is rigorous for all levels.
“For tryouts, the first day, we did a bunch of tests like juggling, dribbling and sprinting short and long distances,” said Adrianna Giannini, junior. “We also played seven versus seven games. Tomorrow we are going to play a full field game.”
Girls on the team have personal goals that they want to achieve during the 2025 season.
“I want to improve my skills during the season and most importantly have fun with my team members no matter what team I am placed on,” said Ryan Baltazar, junior.
Other soccer players had similar personal goals as well as team goals that they wanted to reach during the next three months.
“I want to be competitive with my team and build good relationships with my teammates during the season so that we can do well, but I also do not want to put too much pressure on myself,” said Macey Pjesky, junior.
Upperclassmen on the team are taking on new leadership roles for the freshman and sophomores who are starting soccer.
“I try to be a leader and a role model for the underclassmen,” Giannini said. “I want to show them what the expectations are and how to be a good teammate while supporting them.”
